Questions You May Have

We understand you may have concerns. Here are answers to questions people often ask.

Is your service really confidential?
Yes, absolutely. Everything you share with us stays private unless you tell us you or someone else is in immediate danger. We never share your information without your permission. Your safety and privacy are our top priorities.
Do I need to be ready to leave to contact you?
No, not at all. Many people contact us just to talk, gather information, or explore their options. You can reach out whether you’re thinking about leaving, planning to leave, or just need someone to listen. There’s no pressure to take any specific action.
What if my partner monitors my phone?
Use our “Quick Exit” button (right side of screen) to leave the site immediately. Consider calling from a safe phone, using a friend’s device, or visiting from a public library. Our safety tips guide shows you how to browse privately.
Do you support men?
Yes, we support everyone affected by domestic abuse regardless of gender. While the majority of those we help are women, we recognise that men also experience domestic abuse and need support. Everyone deserves to be safe.
Is there a cost?
No, all our services are completely free. You don’t need a referral, and there are no forms to fill out before we can talk. Simply reach out in the way that feels safest for you.

Stories of Hope

Hear from those who found support through Project Salama

Names and identifying details have been changed to protect privacy.

“Speaking to someone in my own language made all the difference. They understood my cultural background and never judged me. The Freedom Programme showed me I was not alone.”

Amina, survivor Somalia

“I had no family in England and did not know my rights. Project Salama helped me understand the support I was entitled to and stayed with me through every step.”

Priya, survivor Sri Lanka

“I was too ashamed to speak to my GP. Project Salama listened without judgement and helped me access a refuge at exactly the right moment. I am safe now.”

Elena, survivor Romania

“In my culture you do not speak about these things outside the home. The women here understood that. They helped me find a way forward that still felt like mine.”

Fatou, survivor Gambia

“I did not know where to start with legal help. Project Salama connected me with a solicitor who understood my situation. Their advocacy gave me the courage to move forward.”

Zahra, survivor Iran

“The Chai and Chat sessions introduced me to women who had been through the same. For the first time in years I did not feel invisible. It changed everything.”
